Vanswe RB405 recumbent bike designed for plus-size riders with 400 lb weight capacity

Why Standard Exercise Bikes Often Don’t Work for Bigger Riders

Many home exercise bikes are designed around average-size users. For heavier adults, that can create real problems: narrow seats, shaky frames, low weight limits, uncomfortable posture, and a feeling that the bike is not built for daily use.

The Vanswe RB405 is designed to solve those problems with a 400 lb weight capacity, a wider cushioned seat, a supportive backrest, and a stable recumbent frame that helps larger riders feel secure from the first ride.

Built for Riders Up to 400 lbs — Features That Make the Difference

A Stable Recumbent Bike for 350+ lb Riders

The reinforced steel frame supports riders up to 400 lbs, helping reduce wobble during steady cardio sessions.

With a max 400 lbs weight capacity, this recumbent bike is built stronger than standard models. The reinforced steel frame delivers rock-solid stability, so you can pedal with full intensity and confidence — without wobbling or worry.

Low-Impact Cardio That Feels Easier on Knees and Hips

Low-impact cardio can be easier to stick with when your body feels supported. The Vanswe RB405 uses a recumbent riding position that lets you sit back with your back supported, helping reduce the pressure that upright cycling can place on the knees, hips, and lower back.

For heavier riders, this seated position can make daily cardio feel more comfortable and approachable. Instead of standing, leaning forward, or balancing on a narrow saddle, you can pedal from a stable, reclined position while keeping your movement smooth and controlled.

A Wider Seat Designed for Bigger Users

The 13” × 16.5” seat gives larger users more space than typical compact exercise bike seats.

The seat is designed with extra space so you never feel squeezed in. Even users with wider hips can sit comfortably, enjoying a stable and relaxed ride without compromise.

Thick Cushioning for Longer, More Comfortable Rides

The 3.5” high-density cushion supports the hips and back without collapsing flat during longer rides.

The seat and backrest contour to your body without collapsing to the base. This balanced design offers the softness you need for comfort and the firmness you need for proper support — even during long sessions.

Great Buy

Hubby is almost 390 lbs, he rides every day now and losing weight! Very sturdy and packed well, easy to put together.

E. Humphreys, ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐,

This thing is SOLID!

I stand 6'5" and weight 350lbs on a good day. Needless to say, the exercise equipment I use and, well, everything else I use need to be "sturdy". This recumbent bike fit the bill. Not only does it afford me enough leg room to actually use it, it is rock solid under my "petite" backside.

The seat is comfortable and the resistance is decent. When I say decent, I mean it'll give you a good cardio workout if you're on it for 30 minutes, but it won't feel like the second leg of the Tour de France.

... if your a bigger person who's looking for some no nonsense cardio equipment, then you should seriously consider this unit.

Heavy Duty Incumbent Exercise Bike is Effective Value

Upon purchasing I weighed over 370 lbs. and needed a heavy-duty bike capable of holding my weight while I attempt to slim down.
...
On first use of the machine, I found the bike to be well made and the large seat to be very comfortable.I have begun usage with light tension and short workout time. Each week have gradually increased these settings. The led display that comes with the bike is simple but gives you information that you can use to gauge your progress. I had to replace the supplied batteries after 2 days use but the replacements I have held up for the 6 weeks that I have used to bike to date. So far, I have lost about 6 pounds during this time and confident that I will continue to lose weight using the bike daily as I do.
...
With that said I am happy with this purchase and recommend to anyone needing an incumbent exercise bike who is starting out heavy needing an affordable solution to indoor exercise.

Great bike, hope it lasts me a long time!!!

Easy assembly, no problems with screws/bolts...threaded nicely, extremely quiet ride, super comfortable (accommodates my extremely large 4xl butt!) wide seat, easy adjustments, holds 320lbs without feeling like it’s going to crumble underneath me- even when I’m really giving it my all! I LOVE the way I get some good exercise in and it doesn’t hurt my knees and legs...I’m so glad I’ve gotten into recumbent biking!!!

Perfect Option for 300+ lbs/Mobility Impaired

I am so glad this product exists. I am very overweight (300+ lbs), recovering from ankle reconstruction surgery, and desperately trying to get healthy, lose weight, and take care of my body...
I tested it out immediately because I was worried it wouldn’t be strong enough or stable enough for me too use. I was pleasantly surprised and spent the next 20 minutes cycling away. The seat is surprisingly comfortable ... it’s virtually silent, even at high speeds. It is strong and stable enough to support my weight no matter the intensity of my workout.
I have been using it twice a day for a couple months now, and it still feels like new and as stable as ever. Between this and altering my diet, I have lost 22 pounds since January 4th, 2021.Worth every penny and perfect for those who are overweight and/or mobility impaired.

Great for Larger folks - Sturdy

After much research I purchased this Recumbent Bike. I'm 5'7" and 320 and was concerned that most bikes only support 300lbs. I went with this as it supports 380lb. It is very solid and sturdy I feel very stable on this bike. It was easy to put together took us about 1 hr together, the instructions were very easy to read and the parts and nuts/bolts were labeled well. I would def recommend this, the value is awesome. The Screen is basic but gives all the info I need. I also like it has room for my book or tablet so I can read while pedaling. I tried a friends Schwinn that she paid over $700 for and I'm just as impressed with this bike.

Frequently Asked Questions About Recumbent Bikes for Heavy People

Can a 400 lb person use a recumbent bike safely?

Yes. The Vanswe RB405 is specifically engineered with a reinforced steel frame rated for riders up to 400 lbs. Unlike standard exercise bikes that max out at 250–300 lbs, the RB405 uses a heavier-gauge steel construction and a wider base to distribute weight evenly and minimize frame flex during pedaling. Thousands of riders in the 300–400 lb range use it daily without stability concerns.

What is the best exercise bike for someone over 300 lbs?

For riders over 300 lbs, a recumbent bike is generally a better choice than an upright bike because the reclined seat position supports your back and takes pressure off your knees and hips. Key features to look for are a weight capacity above 350 lbs, a seat wider than 12 inches, and a step-through frame design that makes getting on and off easier. The Vanswe RB405 meets all three criteria with its 400 lb capacity, 13" × 16.5" seat, and low step-over height.

Is a recumbent bike good for overweight people with bad knees?

Yes — this is one of the most common reasons heavier riders choose recumbent bikes over treadmills or upright cycles. The reclined pedaling position keeps your legs in front of you rather than below, which significantly reduces the compressive load on the knee joint. The smooth magnetic resistance on the RB405 also eliminates the jarring impact of outdoor cycling or running, making it one of the most joint-friendly cardio options available for plus-size adults.

How wide is the seat on the Vanswe RB405?

The seat on the RB405 measures 13 inches wide by 16.5 inches deep, which is noticeably larger than the 10–11 inch seats found on most standard recumbent bikes. It also features 3.5 inches of high-density foam cushioning so the seat doesn't compress flat under heavier body weight during longer sessions.

Can seniors who are overweight use the RB405?

Absolutely. The RB405 is one of the more popular choices among older adults with higher body weight for two reasons: the step-through frame design makes it easy to mount and dismount without lifting your leg over a high bar, and the reclined seated position is stable enough that you don't need to balance the way you would on an upright bike. The built-in pulse sensors on the handlebars also let seniors easily monitor heart rate to stay in a safe exercise zone.

How long does it take to see results using a recumbent bike if I'm 300+ lbs?

Results vary by individual, but heavier riders often see measurable changes faster than lighter ones because the calorie burn per session is proportionally higher. Riding at a moderate pace for 30 minutes burns roughly 250–400 calories for someone in the 300+ lb range. Combined with consistent use 4–5 times per week and a moderate calorie deficit, many users in this weight range report noticeable changes within 4–6 weeks. The reviews on this page include several riders in the 320–390 lb range who share their specific results.

What is the weight limit on most recumbent bikes, and why is 400 lbs better?

Most mainstream recumbent exercise bikes — including popular models from brands like Marcy and Sunny Health — have weight limits of 250–300 lbs. This means a 320 lb rider is technically operating outside the rated capacity of those bikes, which creates safety risks and accelerates wear on the frame and resistance mechanism. A 400 lb rated frame like the RB405 gives a 300 lb rider a 100 lb safety buffer, which translates to a more stable feel, quieter operation, and a longer product lifespan.

Does the RB405 fold up for storage?

No, the RB405 does not fold. It has a fixed recumbent frame measuring approximately 56" long × 24" wide. However, it does include built-in transport wheels at the front base, so you can tilt it slightly and roll it to a different location without disassembling. If compact storage is a priority, this is worth considering before purchasing.
